Seven-Up Apple Dumplings
A classic American dessert featuring whole tart apples wrapped in tender biscuit dough, then baked in a sweet, bubbly citrus-cinnamon syrup. The lemon-lime soda helps create a unique, slightly crisp glaze over the soft dumplings as they bake.

Fremgangsmåde
Trin for trin
- 1
Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) and lightly grease a 23x33 cm (9x13 inch) baking dish.
Ca. 5 min.
Kokkens note: Using a glass or ceramic baking dish helps with even heating.
- 2
Separate the refrigerated biscuit dough into individual biscuits.
Ca. 1 min.
- 3
On a lightly floured surface, roll or press each biscuit into a thin round, large enough to fully enclose an apple.
Ca. 7 min.
Kokkens note: If the dough is sticky, dust your hands and the rolling pin with a little flour.
- 4
Wrap one dough round around each peeled and cored apple, pinching the seams firmly to seal.
Ca. 5 min.
- 5
Place the wrapped apples seam-side down in the prepared baking dish.
Ca. 1 min.
Kokkens note: Leave a little space between each dumpling to allow the syrup to bubble up around them.
- 6
In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
Ca. 2 min.
- 7
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon until combined.
Ca. 1 min.
- 8
Slowly pour in the lemon-lime soda and optional vanilla extract, then return to the heat and bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
Ca. 3 min.
Kokkens note: Pour the soda in slowly as it will foam up when it hits the hot butter mixture.
- 9
Carefully pour the hot syrup mixture over and around the dumplings in the baking dish.
Ca. 1 min.
- 10
Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the dough is deep golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a knife.
Ca. 35 min.
Kokkens note: The syrup will reduce and thicken as it bakes.
- 11
Let the dumplings cool in the dish for at least 10 minutes before serving.
Ca. 10 min.
Kokkens note: This allows the sauce to thicken into a lovely syrup.
- 12
Serve warm, spooning extra syrup from the pan over each dumpling.
Kokkens note: These are delicious on their own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
