- 794 gcanned pork and beans, undrained

The method
Step by step
- 1
Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F).
- 2
Heat the vegetable oil in a large, oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper.
About 1 min
Cook’s note: An oven-safe cast iron skillet is perfect for this one-pot recipe.
- 3
Sauté the vegetables for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they have softened.
About 7 min
- 4
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until the meat is fully browned and no longer pink.
About 8 min
- 5
Carefully drain off any excess grease from the skillet.
About 2 min
Cook’s note: Tilt the pan and use a spoon to easily scoop out the rendered fat.
- 6
Reduce the heat to medium and stir in the ketchup, canned pork and beans, brown sugar, and salt until everything is well combined.
About 2 min
- 7
Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake, uncovered, for 30 minutes, or until the mixture is bubbly and slightly browned on top.
About 30 min
Cook’s note: If you don't have an oven-safe skillet, transfer the mixture to a 2-quart baking dish before putting it in the oven.
- 8
Carefully remove the skillet from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
About 5 min
Cook’s note: Resting allows the dish to set slightly and makes it easier to serve.
