  • 113 gunsalted butter, melted, plus extra for greasing
  • 4 pcslarge egg
  • 240 mlsour cream
  • 240 mlcottage cheese
  • 100 ggranulated sugar
  • 5 mlvanilla extract
  • 2.5 mlcinnamon, ground(optional)
  • 2.5 mlsalt

Equipment

large pot · large bowl · whisk · 9x13 inch baking dish

The method

Step by step

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a 9x13 inch (23x33 cm) baking dish with butter.

    About 5 min

  2. 2

Cook the egg noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain well and set aside.

    About 10 min

Cook’s note: Do not overcook the noodles, as they will continue to cook in the oven.

  3. 3

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, cottage cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon (if using), and salt until well combined.

    About 3 min

  4. 4

Add the melted butter to the egg mixture and stir until fully incorporated.

    About 1 min

  5. 5

Gently fold the cooked and drained noodles into the egg mixture, ensuring all the noodles are coated.

    About 1 min

  6. 6

Pour the noodle mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.

    About 1 min

  7. 7

Bake for 60 minutes, or until the kugel is set in the center and the top is golden brown.

    About 1 hr

Cook’s note: If the top browns too quickly, you can loosely cover it with foil.

  8. 8

Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

    About 10 min

Cook’s note: Allowing it to rest helps the kugel set and makes for cleaner slices.
