  • 10 galfalfa, dried
  • 10 gflaxseed
  • 1 pcslemon, sliced
  • 0.5 pcsapple, sliced
  • 5 gquillay bark, dried
  • 1 pcslime, for serving
  • 30 gbrown sugar(optional)

Equipment

fine-mesh sieve · large pot · pitcher

The method

Step by step

  1. 1

Pour the water into a large pot and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat.

    About 5 min

  2. 2

Add the barley, horsetail, alfalfa, flaxseed, lemon slices, apple slices, and quillay bark to the boiling water.

Cook’s note: Ensure all ingredients are submerged in the water.

  3. 3

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the mixture simmer gently for at least 20 minutes.

    About 20 min

Cook’s note: Simmering longer will extract more flavor and beneficial properties from the herbs.

  4. 4

Strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean pitcher or heatproof container, discarding the solids.

    About 2 min

Cook’s note: Press the solids gently to extract any remaining liquid.

  5. 5

If desired, stir in the brown sugar until it completely dissolves.

    About 1 min

Cook’s note: Adjust the amount of sugar to your preference, or omit for a sugar-free drink.

  6. 6

Serve the emoliente warm, garnished with a fresh lime slice.

Cook’s note: You can keep the emoliente warm in a thermos for a few hours.
