The method

Step by step

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

    About 5 min

  2. 2

In a medium bowl, combine the fresh cilantro, fresh parsley, minced garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, paprika, cumin, ground ginger, ground turmeric (if using), cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper for the chermoula sauce.

    About 5 min

Cook’s note: Adjust cayenne pepper to your preferred spice level.

  3. 3

Mix the chermoula ingredients well until a thick paste forms.

    About 2 min

  4. 4

Pat the white fish fillets dry with paper towels.

    About 1 min

Cook’s note: Drying the fish helps the chermoula adhere better.

  5. 5

Evenly coat both sides of the fish fillets with the chermoula sauce.

    About 3 min

Cook’s note: You can let the fish marinate for 15-30 minutes in the fridge for deeper flavor, but it's not strictly necessary.

  6. 6

Place the marinated fish in a baking dish.

    About 1 min

Cook’s note: Line the baking dish with parchment paper for easier cleanup.

  7. 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.

    About 20 min

Cook’s note: Cooking time will vary depending on the thickness of your fish fillets.

  8. 8

Garnish with fresh lemon slices before serving, if desired.

    About 1 min
