Mise en place

Ingredients

  • 8 pcshot dog, cut into 1-inch rounds
  • 1 cupketchup
  • 0.5 cupbrown sugar, packed
  • 0.5 pcsyellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbspworcestershire sauce

Equipment

pot · spoon · knife · cutting board

The method

Step by step

  1. 1

Cut the hot dogs into 1-inch thick rounds.

    About 5 min

  2. 2

In a medium pot or saucepan, combine the ketchup, packed brown sugar, finely chopped yellow onion, and Worcestershire sauce.

    About 2 min

Cook’s note: Whisking the sauce ingredients together before heating helps the sugar dissolve more evenly.

  3. 3

Place the pot over medium heat and stir until the sauce begins to simmer and the sugar has completely dissolved.

    About 3 min

  4. 4

Add the cut hot dog pieces to the pot and stir to coat them evenly in the sauce.

    About 1 min

  5. 5

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and allow it to simmer for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

    About 1 hr

Cook’s note: The longer it simmers, the more the flavors will meld. You can also use a slow cooker on low for 2-3 hours for this step.

  6. 6

Serve the fondue hot dogs warm, with toothpicks for easy handling.
