Fried Mantou with Condensed Milk

Mise en place

Ingredients

  • 4 pcsmantou, cut into quarters
  • 2 cupvegetable oil
  • 0.25 cupsweetened condensed milk

Equipment

slotted spoon · wok · deep pot · paper towels

The method

Step by step

  1. 1

Prepare the mantou by cutting each into four equal pieces.

    About 2 min

  2. 2

Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or deep pot over medium-high heat until it reaches about 170-180°C (340-350°F).

    About 3 min

Cook’s note: To test the oil, drop a small piece of mantou in; it should sizzle and float to the surface immediately.

  3. 3

Carefully add the cut mantou pieces to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry in batches if necessary.

  4. 4

Fry the mantou for 3-5 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides.

    About 4 min

Cook’s note: Adjust heat as needed to prevent burning and ensure even cooking.

  5. 5

Remove the fried mantou with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

    About 1 min

  6. 6

Arrange the fried mantou on a serving plate and drizzle generously with sweetened condensed milk.

Cook’s note: Serve immediately while warm for the best texture.
