Mise en place
Ingredients
- 450 gpasteurized prepared cheese product, cut into 2cm cubes
- 225 gpork sausage, casings removed if necessary
- 280 gcanned diced tomatoes with green chilies, undrained
Equipment
microwave-safe bowl · spoon · skillet · cutting board · knife
The method
Step by step
- 1
Place the pork sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat.
About 1 min
- 2
Cook the sausage, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
About 6 min
Cook’s note: Use the side of a wooden spoon or spatula to crumble the sausage into small pieces as it cooks.
- 3
Carefully drain off any excess grease from the skillet and set the cooked sausage aside.
About 1 min
- 4
Place the cubed cheese into a large microwave-safe bowl.
About 1 min
Cook’s note: Cubing the cheese helps it melt more quickly and evenly.
- 5
Pour the entire can of undrained diced tomatoes with green chilies over the cheese.
- 6
Microwave on medium power (50%) for 2 minutes, then carefully remove the bowl and stir well.
About 2 min
Cook’s note: Using medium power prevents the cheese from scorching or separating.
- 7
Continue to microwave in 1-minute intervals, stirring after each, until the cheese is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
About 3 min
- 8
Add the cooked sausage to the melted cheese mixture and stir until fully combined.
About 1 min
- 9
Serve the dip warm with tortilla chips or vegetable sticks.
Keep it good
