What Forkin is, in one sentence
Forkin is a European food-scanning, nutrition, and meal-planning app that surfaces independent quality and environmental scoring on every barcode, alerts users when a stocked product is recalled, and runs on core EU/EEA infrastructure selected for renewable contracts or low-carbon grids (substantiation per provider at forkin.io/infrastructure; Forkin is not carbon-neutral and buys no offsets) — core user data is stored on EU/EEA infrastructure (full processor list at forkin.io/privacy/sub-processors).
Founder & team
Forkin is operated by Eutopix Labs P.S.A., an independent Polish company. The team builds the entire stack — mobile app, backend API, ETL pipeline, GPU inference, and meal-scan 3D pipeline — in-house. Founder bio and team headshots available on request from press@forkin.io.
Editorial angles we're available to discuss
- EU digital sovereignty — why we migrated off Cloudflare to Bunny and what the Schrems II ruling means for sensitive food and health data.
- Green hosting in practice — the actual carbon footprint of AI inference and how on-demand GPU lifecycles cut idle power use.
- The Open Food Facts ecosystem — building on the commons, the contribute-back model, and how the open dataset compares to closed catalogues like Salsify and Nutritionix.
- Food scoring methodology — Forkin Score on a Nutri-Score 2023 v2 base, NOVA, IARC classification indicators, and why we publish every formula.
- Subscription business models without ads or data brokering — the mission tier (Supporter / Champion) and how web payments fund higher charity allocation than App Store / Play Store payments.
