Quick Beer Biscuits

Mise en place

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 3 cupall-purpose baking mix (Bisquick-style biscuit mix)
  • 3 tbspgranulated sugar
  • 355 mllager beer, slightly warm

topping

  • 2 tbspbutter, melted(optional)

Equipment

spatula · baking sheet · mixing bowl · whisk · oven

The method

Step by step

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).

    About 3 min

Cook’s note: Ensure the oven is fully preheated for the best rise on your biscuits.

  2. 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the biscuit mix and granulated sugar.

    About 1 min

  3. 3

Pour in the warm beer and stir with a spatula until just combined into a sticky dough; do not overmix.

    About 1 min

Cook’s note: Overmixing can develop the gluten and result in tough biscuits.

  4. 4

Drop about 10 heaping spoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased baking sheet, leaving some space between them.

    About 1 min

Cook’s note: An ice cream scoop works perfectly for portioning uniform biscuits.

  5. 5

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

    About 12 min

  6. 6

If using, brush the tops of the hot biscuits with the melted butter immediately after they come out of the oven.

Cook’s note: This adds extra richness and a nice sheen.

Keep it good
