What our servers haven't put into the air

Most apps you scan with run on standard cloud regions. We don't. Every Forkin server runs on a provider that contracts 100% renewable electricity or sits on a near-zero-carbon grid. Below is the cumulative CO₂e we've avoided since launch.

18.2

kg CO₂e avoided

vs. the same workload on a typical regional grid (AWS Frankfurt / us-east-1).
60

kWh consumed

Conservative idle estimate — we round up our own draw, never down.

Where you fit

Your part in this

There is no per-user attribution math here — that would be dishonest and we'd rather not invent a number. What's true is simpler: every paid subscription pays the bill that keeps these servers running on green energy instead of cheaper grey-grid alternatives. The number above grows because you're here.

Methodology

How the number is calculated

Every hour, a cron job on our pipeline server appends one row per active server to a public ledger table. Each row is computed as:

kWh × (counterfactual_grid_intensity − our_provider_intensity)

Counterfactual grid intensities are 12-month averages from electricitymaps.com; our provider intensities come from the providers' own published data (Hetzner: 100% renewable contracts since 2021; Hyperstack Iceland: ~28 gCO₂e/kWh from hydro and geothermal).

We use idle power draw, not load — that consistently overestimates our own emissions and understates the savings claim. The endpoint behind this page (`/impact/totals`) returns nothing else: just totals.
