Ingredients
Converted for display; the recipe amounts stay equivalent.
- 20 gground coffee, coarsely ground, dark roast
- 120 mlhot water, just off the boil
- 30 mlsweetened condensed milk
- 1 cupice
Equipment
heatproof glass · vietnamese coffee filter (phin) · spoon
The method
Step by step
- 1
Add the sweetened condensed milk to the bottom of a heatproof glass.
- 2
Place the Vietnamese coffee filter (phin) on top of the glass.
- 3
Add the ground coffee into the filter.
- 4
Gently press down the tamper inside the filter, just enough to level the coffee grounds, do not overtighten.
- 5
Pour a small amount of hot water over the coffee grounds and let them bloom for about 30 seconds.
About 1 min
Cook’s note: This step allows the coffee to release its flavors more effectively.
- 6
Fill the phin with the remaining hot water, cover with the lid, and let the coffee drip slowly into the glass.
About 4 min
Cook’s note: This process typically takes 4-5 minutes. If it drips too fast, tighten the tamper slightly. If too slow, loosen it a bit.
- 7
Once all the coffee has dripped, remove the phin.
- 8
Stir the coffee and sweetened condensed milk together until well combined.
- 9
Fill another glass with ice, then pour the coffee mixture over the ice.
Cook’s note: Adjust the amount of ice to your preference for dilution and chill.
- 10
Serve immediately and enjoy.
